Mayor Henry Milander Public Service Scholarship

Available for students in Public Administration who have demonstrated a record of academic achievement and who are committed to pursuing a career in public service.

Requirements:

  • Full-time degree seeking graduate student in Public Administration
  • 3.0 GPA or higher at FIU (or a previous educational institute)
  • Financial need, as determined by the University's financial aid office
  • Must demonstrate the potential for civic leadership and a sincere interest in and commitment to public service
  • First preference will be given to applicants who are high school graduate from Hialeah, Miami Lakes and Miami Springs and/or residents of those municipalities

To be considered for this award, you must submit:

  • 1-2 page letter of application should explain the student's record of public service and offer examples of experiences that reflect either a record or a potential for civic leadership.
  • A copy of their driver's license
  • An up to date resume

Dewey Knight Jr. Scholarship

The Dewey Knight Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually to minority undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Public Administration Program at Florida International University. Candidates should exhibit a commitment to public service and dedication to the realm of Public Administration. Recipients receive credit toward tuition for one semester and recognition at the MetroForum Breakfast Series hosted in honor of the late Dewey Knight Jr.

Requirements:

  • Fully admitted and enrolled minority student in Public Administration
  • Full time student
  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Be involved in extracurricular activities related to the field

To be considered for this award, you must submit:

  • A one page, typed autobiographical sketch with reference to career goals and an explanation as to why the financial assistance would be helpful in achieving these goals.
  • Professional resume
  • Please attach a list of any honors, awards or recognition received and any participation in community projects.
  • Complete the attached Scholarship Application

Anne Ackerman Public Service Scholarship

In 1989, the Forum of North Dade established the Anne Ackerman Public Service Scholarship in honor of the memory and contributions of Anne Ackerman to public service in South Florida.

Requirements

  • Full-time degree seeking graduate student in Public Administration at FIU
  • Graduate of a Miami-Dade County high school
  • Currently residing in Miami-Dade County
  • Financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or greater each semester and cumulatively

To be considered for this award, you must submit:

  • Copy of license required
  • 1-2 page letter of application (should explain the student's record of public service and offer examples of experiences that reflect either a record or a potential for civic leadership)
  • An updated resume
