Mayor Henry Milander Public Service Scholarship

 

Awarded in the fall of each academic year, the Milander Scholarship is available for undergraduate and master-level students in Public Administration who have demonstrated a record of academic achievement and who are committed to pursuing a career in public service.   • Eligibility

    Eligibility

    • Full-time degree seeking undergraduate or master-level student in Public Administration with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher at FIU or a previous educational institution.
    • Financial need, as determined by the University's financial aid office.
    • Each applicant must demonstrate the potential for civic leadership and a sincere interest in and commitment to public service.
    • First preference will be given to applicants who are high school graduates from Hialeah, Miami Lakes and Miami Springs and to residents of those municipalities.
    • Preference may also be given to students who have secured an internship agreement with public or nonprofit organizations. The scholarship may be used to offset expenses associated with the internship.

     

  • Recipient Considerations
    • Recipients must remain full-time students and remain in good academic standing.
    • Scholarships are awarded for up to a year, provided that the recipient fulfills the responsibilities of the scholarship.

    Interested Students should submit a letter of application, a copy of their driver’s license, and a resume. This 1-2 page letter of application should explain the student’s record of public service and offer examples of experiences that reflect either a record or a potential for civic leadership. Preference will be given to individuals with an existing record of public service. The letter may also include a discussion of financial need.

Anne Ackerman Public Service Scholarship

 

In 1989, the Forum of North Dade established the Anne Ackerman Public Service Scholarship in honor of the memory and contributions of Anne Ackerman to public service in South Florida. The Ackerman Scholarship is awarded in the spring of each academic year.

  • Eligibility
    • Full-time degree seeking graduate student in Public Administration at FIU
    • Currently residing in Miami-Dade County
    • Financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office
    • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or greater each semester and cumulatively
    • Preference will be given to graduates of a Miami-Dade County high school
  • Ricipient Considerations
    • Submit a copy of license is required
    • 1-2 page letter of application (should explain the student's record of public service and offer examples of experiences that reflect either a record or a potential for civic leadership)
    • An updated resume

    Application Deadline: All applications must be submitted by Friday, December 6th to Dirk Hart, Graduate Programs Manager, dhart@fiu.edu.
